Summary

THE AVERAGE REFRIGERATION SYSTEM LOSES THE EQUIVALENT OF ITS COMPLETE REFRIGERANT CHARGE THREE TIMES IN 10 YEARS. DURING PERIODS OF REFRIGERANT LEAKAGE, EFFICIENCY OF OPERATION AND COMPRESSOR LIFE ARE DRAMATICALLY REDUCED, NO MATTER HOW PERFECTLY THE SYSTEM WAS DESIGNED. THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT A REFRIGERATION SYSTEM THAT WAS INSTALLED USING GOOD, BASIC DESIGN CRITERIA, THAT HAS BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED AND THAT HAS NEVER DEVELOPED A REFRIGERANT LEAK WILL OPERATE AT GOOD EFFICIENCY FOR 30 YEARS WITHOUT COMPRESSOR LOSS.
