Summary

The voltage-current characteristics have been determined in films during cooling in a nitrogen gas-flow cryostat and in liquid nitrogen directly. A state of thermal bistability arises when cooling samples with a rarefied gas and in this case the voltage-current characteristic is s-shaped. A state of multistability arises when cooling samples directly with liquid nitrogen. The emergence of this multistability is caused by non-stationary heat removal due to nitrogen boiling. The effect on the resistive state of films of the transitions from the one-phase convective heat exchange in liquid nitrogen to a regime of bubble boiling and from a regime of bubble boiling to a boiling crisis has been investigated.
