Tissue banking in the Czech Republic: current status.

Summary
Six tissue banks (TB) are active in the Czech Republic. Current legislation of cadaveric organ and tissue donation is based on opting-out system. The tissue harvest are performed in collaboration with the transplantation centres, in operationing theatres of tissue banks or in autopsy rooms. The expenses of the tissue harvest and preservation are covered by health insurance on the non-profit and tax-free basis. The practice of Czech TB is influenced by standards of international TB organizations. Advice for formal regulation of tissue banking is presented.
