ON/OFF CONTROL FOR REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS MUST RESULT INEVITABLY IN EVAPORATING TEMPERATURE FLUCTUATING BETWEEN A MAXIMUM AND MINIMUM TO SUIT THE DIFFERENTIAL OF A TEMPERATURE OR PRESSURE CONTROLLER. AT ALL TIMES THIS MAY BE DETRIMENTAL TO THE PRODUCT REFRIGERATED, AND AT LOW LOADS THE COMPRESSOR WILL SPEND MUCH OF ITS RUNNING TIME AT LOWER THAN REQUIRED SUCTION AND HIGHER THAN REQUIRED DISCHARGE PRESSURES. IT MAY ALSO CYCLE RAPIDLY, CAUSING WEAR, MOTOR MALFUNCTION AND STARTER OVERHEATING. VARIABLE SPEED CONTROL ELIMINATES ALL THESE PROBLEMS AS COMPRESSOR CAPACITY IS MATCHED TO LOAD.
