Activities of the IIR’s Commission B1 on Thermodynamics & transfer processes
The IIR’s Commission B1 has been extremely active in the areas of working parties (WP), sub-commissions, IIR conferences, IIR-co-sponsored conferences and commission business meetings.
The IIR’s Commission B1 has been extremely active in the areas of working parties (WP), sub-commissions, IIR conferences, IIR-co-sponsored conferences and commission business meetings.
There are three existing WPs including Mitigation of Direct Emissions of Greenhouse Gases in Refrigeration (chaired by Per. G. Lundqvist) Refrigerant Charge Reduction in Refrigerating Systems (chaired by José Corberan), and Refrigerant System Safety (chaired by Lennart Rolfsmann). Recently, the WP on Life Cycle Climate Performance (LCCP) Evaluation (chaired by Yunho Hwang) was initiated and has been very active. The third meeting on LCCP evaluation was held at TU Delft, The Netherlands, on June 18, 2013 where there were five different presentations including refrigerant/sector matrix advice of NVKL-KANS (by C. van de Sande).
There were many IIR B1 conferences including the 10th IIR-Gustav Lorentzen Conference on Natural Working Fluids (GL2012) held from June 25-27, 2012, in Delft, The Netherlands; the 10th IIR Conference on Phase-Change Materials and Slurries for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning from July 29, 2012-August 1, 2012, held in Kobe, Japan; the 4th Jordanian IIR International Conference on Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, held on September 11-14, 2012, in Amman, Jordan; the 3rd IIR Workshop on Refrigerant Charge Reduction in Refrigerating systems - RCR 2012, held on October 25-26, 2012, in Valencia, Spain and Ammonia Refrigeration Technology, from May 9-11, 2013, in Ohrid, Macedonia. Recently, the 4th IIR International Conference on Thermodynamic Properties and Transfer Processes of Refrigerants (TPTPR2013) was held in Delft, The Netherlands, on June 17-19, 2013, and two more B1 conferences are to be held in 2013 and 2014 respectively: Compressors 2013 – 8th International Conference on Compressors and Coolants, on September 2-4, 2013, in Casta Papiernicka, Slovakia and GL2014 – the 11th IIR-Gustav Lorentzen Conference on Natural Refrigerants, on August 31-September 2, 2014, in Hangzhou, China.
Five IIR-co-sponsored conferences in 2013 and 2014 will concern Commission B1: 8th International Conference on Compressors and their Systems, on September 9-10, 2013, London, England; the 44th International HVAC&R Conference, on December 4-6, 2013, in Belgrade, Serbia; the 49th AICARR International Conference, on February 26-28, 2014, in Rome, Italy; the 2014 International Sorption Heat Pump Conference (SSHPC2014), on March 31-April 3, 2014, in College Park, Maryland, USA and the 7th Asian Conference on Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning (ACRA), on May 18-21, 2014, in Jeju, Korea.
Commission B1 meetings were held in Prague, Czech Republic, during ICR2011, on August 21-26, 2011, in Delft, The Netherlands during GL2012, on June 25-27, 2012, and in Delft again during TPTPR2013, on June 17-19, 2013. In the last B1 meeting in Delft, Y. T. Kang (President of Commission B1) explained the B1 4-year Rolling Plan and P. Domanski (President of the Science and Technology Council [STC] of the IIR) presented important issues discussed by the STC. Initiatives and opportunities, such as the Phase-down of high-GWP refrigerants, Energy-efficient buildings and cars, Transport refrigeration, Food preservation, the Economic importance of the refrigeration sector, the Involvement of young people, and Identifying industrial needs were discussed.
The next meeting is scheduled during the GL2014 in Hangzhou, China (Aug. 31-Sept. 2, 2014).
