Focus on Compressor Engineering, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, and High Performance Buildings
Welcoming 800 participants from 30 different countries, the 2018 Purdue Conferences took place at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, USA, from July 9 to 12, 2018. The three conferences held simultaneously included the 24th International Compressor Engineering Conference, the 17th International Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Conference, and the 5th International High Performance Buildings Conference.
The conference at a glance
Each day, the keynote presentations were followed by seven parallel technical sessions during which each of the 472 presenting authors had the opportunity to orally present their paper. Overall, 80 technical sessions, typically 2 hours in duration, were scheduled over the four days. Engineers and researchers presented their work and held subsequent discussions on topics such as alternative refrigerants and their technologies, heat transfer and heat exchangers, compressors, HVAC systems, and performance comparisons of refrigerants with low global warming potential, amongst others.
The conferences also included a dedicated workshop on the transition to flammable refrigerants, covering topics such as the basics of fire dynamics in refrigerants, flammability tests and standards, and safety code requirements for the use of flammable gases.
