Coordinated by the IIR Science and Technology Council, Commission D2 is aimed at promoting knowledge of refrigerated transport technology worldwide.


In addition to the IIR congress, held once every four years, Commission D2 participates in the IIR Conference on Sustainability and the Cold Chain, held out of synchronisation to the congress, every 2 years.



IIR Working Groups and Commission D2


IIR Working Groups operate on a temporary basis to bring together specialists in order to work on projects arising from current issues.

Their aim is to promote development, provide knowledge and give recommendations in these spheres.


Commission D2 is currently involved in the following IIR Working Groups:

  • Cold Chain for Pharmaceutical Products
  • Energy Labelling in the Cold Chain
  • Cold Chain in Warm Countries
  • Sub-Commission CERTE on Test Stations

Sub-Commission D2 CERTE is extremely active and systematically organizes a yearly technical meeting in order to harmonize practices of official ATP test stations in charge of ATP laboratories, recognized by the UNECE and the Working Party (WP.11) in charge of the "Agreement on the international carriage of perishable foodstuffs and on the special equipment to be used for such carriage" (ATP).


Sub-Commission D2 CERTE address issues such as the methods for re-certification of multi-compartment vehicles and non-destructive methods for determining small vehicle insulation thickness.
