Conference report: Australia

Postharvest Unlimited Downunder 2004, an IIR-co-sponsored conference, was held in Sydney, Australia, on November 9-12, 2004, with as theme "Postharvest technologies for the delivery of high quality horticultural products - implementation based on an understanding of the physiological and engineering requirements of produce". The event attracted 94 participants from 14 countries. Thirty-seven oral presentations and 30 posters were presented. The conference highlighted recent and exciting developments in the postharvest area and was opened by the NSW Minister for State Development, the Hon. David Campbell. Prof. Bart Nicolaï, President of IIR Commission C2, gave an address entitled "Quality kinetics and modelling". Dr David Tanner and Prof. Bart Nicolaï gave an overview of the IIR and IIR Working Parties on Data and Models for Refrigeration and Freezing Foods and Cold Chain Optimization.
