COP21 UN climate change conference 2015

The Conference of the Parties (COP21) organized by host country France in conjunction with United Nations.

The IIR will participate in the much anticipated 21st United Nations Framework Conference of the Parties (COP21) to be held in Paris at the Le Bourget site from 30 November to 11 December 2015. Along with other intergovernmental organizations (IGOs), we will have a stand and plan to organize a side event.

During this hallmark event, 194 countries will come together to reach a new international climate agreement, applicable to all countries, to keep global warming below the threshold of 2°C.

Each participating country’s commitments, as discussed in Lima in December 2014, will be studied and renegotiated with this objective in mind.

Bringing together cross-sector players from business, government, investors, UN, NGO and civil society, this conference will be the most influential climate change event in 2015.

A space for civil society

A truly global event, in addition to the “blue zone” reserved for persons accredited by the UNFCCC secretariat, there will be a dedicated space for civil society.

Situated in the immediate vicinity of the conference centre, this space will receive thousands of civil society representatives participating in the process underway in the framework of the Framework Convention, as well as a wider audience interested in climate disruption issues.

HFCs to be discussed

As in past COPs, we warmly welcome the creation of a refrigeration network among the “observers” (stakeholders of negotiations) in the civil society space. Since HFCs are likely to be discussed, actors in the “refrigeration world” are invited to join the IIR in this effort to promote refrigeration and clarify issues related to fluorinated gases.

Scientific gallery showcasing innovation

A third area within walking distance of the civil society space will be reserved for start-ups and larger industry to showcase their innovations.

IIR member participation

We strongly encourage IIR members from industry and associations alike to participate in this unique event. The IIR is available to guide them on the accreditation procedure with the UNFCCC secretariat in order to exhibit and organize side events.

Applications for side events and exhibits open at 9 a.m. Central European Time (CET) on Tuesday, 30 June 2015 and close at 5 p.m. CET on Friday, 3 July 2015. Successful applicants will be notified in the beginning of October 2015.
