Engineering Internship: Global Refrigeration Outlook (GRO) Publication Support

The International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) is currently developing the Global Refrigeration Outlook 2027 (GRO 2027), the first edition of a new flagship publication series intended to become the global reference on refrigeration technologies, applications, energy use, environmental impacts, and transformation pathways. The candidate will join the Scientific and Technical Information Department (STID) and collaborate with the other team members to coordinate and support the progress and development of the publication.

We are seeking an intern with an engineering or scientific background to join the Scientific and Technical Information Department (STID) at the IIR Head Office for a minimum period of six months, starting in September 2026. 

 

Job summary 

 

The Global Refrigeration Outlook (GRO) is the IIR's first comprehensive, science-based global assessment of refrigeration and heat pump technologies. Scheduled for official launch during the International Congress of Refrigeration (ICR 2027) in Seoul, Republic of Korea, the GRO aims to provide policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and international organisations evidence-based analyses and forward-looking perspectives on the refrigeration sector. 

 

The publication covers the entire refrigeration ecosystem, from cryogenic applications to high-temperature heat pumps, addressing technological developments, environmental impacts, energy efficiency, refrigerant transitions, policy frameworks, equitable access to cooling, and future transformation pathways. 

 

More than 140 scientists and experts from nearly 30 countries are currently collaborating on the preparation of the GRO chapters. The intern will work closely with the members of the IIR Head Office and with the international network of authors contributing to the report, supporting the coordination, review, editorial, and communication activities necessary to ensure the timely publication of the GRO. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties 

 

The intern will support the IIR Head Office in the overall coordination and publication process of the Global Refrigeration Outlook. Tasks may include: 

  • Support the organisation and management of the GRO review process, including interactions with reviewers and authors. 
  • Maintain archives of chapter drafts, revised versions, comments, and progress updates. 
  • Assist in organising online meetings involving Chairs, Coordinating Lead Authors, Lead Authors, and Contributing Authors and facilitate communication among authors 
  • Assist in tracking chapter progress and ensuring compliance with publication deadlines. 
  • Clean and format revised chapter documents. 
  • Verify copyright permissions and sources for figures, tables, and graphical material intended for inclusion in the final publication. 
  • Support the editing, layout, and design process of GRO chapters. 
  • Contribute to the implementation of the GRO communication and dissemination strategy. 
  • Contribute to the preparation of presentations, meeting summaries, and coordination materials. 
  • Provide general support for any activities required to ensure the smooth development, coordination, and publication of the Global Refrigeration Outlook. 

 

Qualifications and Skills 

  • Advanced university degree (or currently enrolled in a Master's programme) in engineering, energy, environmental sciences, or another relevant scientific discipline. 
  • Interest in refrigeration, heat pumps, energy systems, climate change, or sustainability topics. 
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work with international teams. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Familiarity with collaborative tools (Teams, SharePoint, document management systems) would be an asset. 
  • Languages: fluent in English; proficiency in French would be an asset. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment. 

 

Working conditions 

 

  • Place of work: Institut International du Froid Head Office - 177 bd Malesherbes - 75017 Paris (metros Wagram, Pereire, Pont Cardinet, Villiers).    
  • Work hours: 35 hours/week, remote working is possible one day per week. 
  • Paid internship.
