France: Sales of household refrigerators stabilise in 2025 after two years of setback

According to Gifam, the association of household appliance brands, sales of household refrigerators were virtually identical in 2025 compared to 2024 (-0.8%), a positive result after two consecutive years of setback.

As is customary, Gifam, the French association of household appliance brands, released a report on the French sector of household appliances for the previous year [1]. Read our previous article on this topic.

In 2025, the French household appliance market generated total revenues of €9.8 billion, down only 1.3% compared to 2024, remaining fairly stable compared. Large appliances, including the refrigeration, laundry, and cooking sectors, accounted for 14.5 million units sold and €5.38 billion in revenue. Although down by -4.5% compared to 2024 results, these figures show a return to the market’s pre-COVID levels.

Accounting for 29% of the large appliances' market value in 2025, the refrigeration sector is slightly declining by -1.4%. Refrigerator sales remained virtually identical (-0.8%), a positive result following two consecutive years of decline. Sales of certain products, such as large models, particularly multi-door refrigerators, increased by 10.2%. Conversely, sales of other household refrigeration appliances, including freezers (-3.2%) and wine cellars (-7.1%), continue to decline.

According to Gifam, heat waves contributed to one-off peaks in household refrigerator sales, a stable trend over the past few years (see figure).

Figure. Impact of temperatures on domestic refrigerators sales.
More intense heat waves compared to 2024, followed by higher number of repurchased refrigerators → +2% in sales volume
