Hot off the press: Handbook on Indirect Refrigeration and Heat Pump Systems

Be the first to read the newly published IIR Handbook on Indirect Refrigeration and Heat Pump Systems.

I would sincerely like to thank everyone involved in the preparation of this handbook. Without you, this would not have been possible”, Åke Melinder, 2015

Indirect systems have increasingly come into focus due to requirements governing tighter constructions in order to minimize refrigerant leakages from plants as well as changing legislation implemented in order to achieve the phasing out of various types of CFC, HCFC and high-GWP refrigerants.

The Handbook on Indirect Refrigeration and Heat Pump Systems highlights the application of indirect systems with secondary fluid circuits such as in artificial ice rinks, commercial refrigeration and ground-source heat pumps with long collector tubes in the ground, whilst providing practical and concise analysis.

The publication is a result of a long-term collaboration between several experts, primarily Åke Melinder (principal editor) and Eric Granryd, as well as 20 or so companies and additional professionals active in this field.

With a clear objective in mind by all those involved in the work, this handbook has been designed an as aid to facilitate the readers’ understanding and work involving any type of indirect system.

Main topics

  • Types of Indirect Systems
  • Components In Indirect Systems And Their Function
  • Corrosion In Secondary Fluid Systems
  • Environmental Aspects Of Secondary Fluid Systems
  • Projecting And Dimensioning
  • Optimization Of Secondary Systems

Get involved in the action: join an IIR Working Group

The IIR Working Group (WG) on “Refrigerant Charge Reduction in Refrigerating Systems” is focused on the design and development of suitable components which limit environmental impact, thanks to a reduction in the energy consumption and through the curbing of refrigerant emissions.

For more information or to join, contact: Mr José Miguel Corberán (Chairperson) at corberan@ter.upv.es.

Today, there are 11 active IIR Working Groups focused on a wide range of refrigeration matters, such as the:

  • Cold Chain for Pharmaceutical Products
  • Phase-Change Materials and Slurries for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
  • Magnetic Cooling.
