IIR brings its expertise to SophiA’s training in Cameroon
The second capacity building session for SophiA trainers took place in Yaoundé, Cameroon, from January 20 to 24, 2025. The online presentation given by IIR on natural refrigerants in Africa was met with great success.
From January 20 to 24, SophiA partners MINSANTE and 2iE organised a “Train the Trainers” workshop, which brought together 20 teaching and research staff from various national universities in Cameroon. This hybrid training session was well received and featured the participation of high-ranking representatives from the Cameroonian Ministry of Education, who expressed their appreciation for SophiA Technologies’ efforts in promoting knowledge transfer.

The IIR participated in the workshop remotely. Monique Baha, representing the IIR, delivered a presentation on the environmental context driving the adoption of natural refrigerants in Africa. She emphasised that most African countries have now ratified the Kigali Amendment, which mandates the gradual phase-out of HFCs. Transitioning directly to natural refrigerants is critical, provided appropriate training programs, standards, and regulations are established.
In partnership with SophiA, the IIR will publish a policy brief in March 2025 on the adoption of natural refrigerants in Africa, featuring several case studies from the continent.
