IIR Corporate Member Interview - Magnoric
Can you briefly describe Magnoric?
Magnoric is a French-German Deeptech company developing innovative magnetic cooling technologies based on the magnetocaloric effect. The company develops solid-state, highly efficient and refrigerant-free cooling systems as an alternative to conventional compressor-based refrigeration. Its technology aims to reduce energy consumption and the environmental impact of cooling while enabling new applications in refrigeration and thermal management.
What led to you joining the IIR as a Corporate Member in June 2026?
We are actively involved in the scientific community of the cooling industry, especially the science around the solid-state technologies. We publish regularly our latest scientific innovations, we attend different IIR-organised conferences and events and joining the IIR as a Corporate Member facilitate us the exchange with other research groups and companies. We have now access at the IIR scientific library and we can be regularly updated about the newest scientific discoveries.
Can you tell us about your involvement and experience with the IIR?
Joining the IIR as a Corporate Member has given Magnoric greater visibility within the refrigeration community and provided valuable opportunities to promote magnetocaloric cooling technology and its benefits. We regularly participate in IIR conferences and events, particularly Thermag, where we contribute to the scientific community by presenting our latest research. This year, our team will present three scientific publications at the conference. Our membership also gives us access to the IIR’s FRIDOC database, which is a valuable resource for supporting our technical studies and deepening our understanding of developments and challenges across the refrigeration sector. Finally, the IIR has helped us connect with key industrial players in the refrigeration industry, creating opportunities for discussions, partnerships and potential collaborations around the development and deployment of magnetocaloric cooling.
Can you share a specific example about how being part of the IIR has made a difference to your work so far?
Being a part of the IIR allowed us to discover the International Congress of Refrigeration (ICR) which is a leading global event in the field of refrigeration that we will attend in 2027 and will present our latest developments to the entire cooling industry.
What do you think sets IIR apart from other organisations?
The IIR is an intergovernmental organisation dedicated to advancing refrigeration and heat pump technologies and their application for a sustainable future. The main advantage that IIR has is the fact that it connects researchers, industry experts and policymakers to make the cooling industry cleaner.
Which benefits do you value most as part of your membership?
The benefits we value most are the access to scientific and technical knowledge, as well as the opportunities to engage with the international refrigeration community. In our first months of membership, we have particularly benefited from access to the IIR’s FRIDOC database, which supports our technical studies and helps us stay informed about developments in refrigeration technologies and applications. We also value the opportunities to participate in international conferences and events, both to share our own work and to exchange with researchers and industrial players in the sector. The preferential conditions offered to IIR members make it easier for us to participate regularly in these events.
Would you recommend IIR membership to a colleague in your field?
We would definitely recommend IIR membership to other innovant companies in the field of cooling.
What does the future hold for Magnoric and the IIR?
We have sponsored the last IIR scientific conference in the field of magnetic cooling and we will be happy to be more involved into this type of scientific conferences. As our technology moves closer to the market, we also see the IIR as a good way to stay connected with both researchers and industry players.
What would you say to other companies considering becoming an IIR member?
If they would like a channel to address together to researchers, industry experts and policymakers, joining the IIR could be the one of the best ways to have it.
