IIR governing bodies meet in Seoul ahead of 27th International Congress of Refrigeration (ICR 2027)

In February 2026, the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) held its biannual governing bodies meetings in Seoul, Republic of Korea, and met with the national delegation to discuss preparations for the 2027 International Congress of Refrigeration (ICR).

The meetings brought together the Science and Technology Council (STC), the Publications Sub‑Committee (PSC) and the Management Committee (MC) for several days of meetings as a core part of the IIR’s governance.

These sessions allow member countries to review progress, discuss strategic priorities, and guide the institutes medium‑ and long‑term direction, as well as covering the IIR’s scientific, technical and institutional activities. Delegates reviewed current initiatives to ensure coherence across programmes, and to support the organisation’s mission as the global intergovernmental body for refrigeration.

The meetings were held in Seoul, as the Republic of Korea’s national delegation is preparing to host the 27th International Congress of Refrigeration (ICR 2027) in the city in August 2027. During the meetings, the national delegation provided updates on organisation of the Congress, outlining ongoing coordination efforts and reporting steady progress in preparations. Delegates also visited COEX, the venue for ICR 2027, a spacious and highly versatile convention centre located in the Gangnam district in the heart of Seoul.

ICR 2027 will feature keynote speeches, technical sessions, workshops, and panel discussions covering a wide range of topics, including refrigeration technologies, cryogenics, air conditioning, heat pumps, food science and cold chain, energy efficiency, storage and transport, and climate change mitigation.

Abstracts submissions are open until June 1, 2026.
