IIR member news: Daikin opens residential AC factory in Indonesia

Daikin has launched a new $220 million factory in Indonesia, marking the beginning of local production of residential air conditioners.

The new plant, located in Cikarang, West Java, spans 204,000m² at the Greenland International Industrial Centre. It will manufacture three main inverter-based residential AC models and is expected to start delivering locally produced units to the Indonesian market by July. The facility, operated by PT Daikin Industries Indonesia, has an annual production capacity of up to 1.5 million units.

This new factory is part of Daikin’s broader regional expansion strategy. Masanori Togawa, CEO of Daikin Industries, highlighted that the plant will enable the company to meet the growing demand in Indonesia more quickly and efficiently, reinforcing Daikin's leadership in the air conditioning industry across Asia and globally. The facility also supports Indonesia’s aim to reduce its dependence on AC imports, which were valued at $420.46 million in 2024.
