INDEE3 project kick-off meeting in India

In September 2025, an IIR representative attended the official kick-off meeting of a project, INDEE3 - Indo-Norwegian collaboration on sustainable cooling and heating in India. This was the start of a four-year project, funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which will run until 2029.

The project INDEE3 is built on the success of the INDEE+ project, which proved the potential of natural refrigerant technologies across India. The new initiative will take this work further by expanding cooperation and scaling up climate-friendly cooling and heating solutions.

15–16 September BITS Pilani, India

First, the Project Team spent two days at BITS Pilani in India attending The Indo-Norwegian Innovation Forum at BITS Pilani on 15 September. Partners and industry representatives presented the objectives of the project, lessons learned from other projects, case studies, and demonstration technologies installed in India to the academic community.

The next day, BITS PILANI provided the guided tour of a demonstration installation: a flake-ice machine, using propane as the refrigerant. A possible application for a more compact version of this system is onboard small fishing vessels, to better preserve the quality of the seafood.

17–19 September New Delhi, India

The second part of the kick-off meeting took place on the morning of 17 September in New Delhi, where industry stakeholders and representatives from the Norwegian Environmental Agency (NEA) also joined. The meeting allowed participants to understand the structure of the project and work packages, exchanging experience, ideas, and identifying key challenges ahead. In the afternoon, the Partners were invited to the Policy Seminar at the Norwegian Embassy, which provided the perfect platform to connect key stakeholders, strengthen partnerships, and highlight the importance of sustainable cooling and heating for India’s future.

On 18 September, the International Institute of Refrigeration joined the meeting with Innovation Norway, SINTEF Ocean, and SINTEF Energy to discuss future ways to support actions related to the INDEE3 project in India.

In parallel, partners attended Refcold 2025 organised by ISHRAE, on 18th and 19th October to show highlights of the project, the latest findings, and outline the strategy for the upcoming steps.
