International activities

The IIR must play a visible role in the different international events: The IIR, as an intergovernmental organization, will participate in the next 2 main international events organized by the United Nations: - the 17th Meeting of the Parties (MOP17) to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, which will take place in Dakar, Senegal, on December 12-16, 2005. - the 11th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP11) to the Kyoto Protocol on Climate Change (the first to be held since the entry into force of the Kyoto Protocol) which will be held in Montreal, Canada, from November 28 to December 9. On this occasion, the IIR will disseminate a statement entitled "Global Warming: Refrigeration-Sector Challenges" in 10 000 copies (consult it on www.iifiir.org) and Didier Coulomb will express the IIR's position on this key-issue during the high-level segment of the plenary session. Furthermore, the IIR was invited by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to prepare a "Report Card" on behalf of the refrigeration industry highlighting recent achievements and future challenges in the context of sustainable development. This request is the follow-up to a highly esteemed 80-page report prepared by the IIR for the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002.
