Out of ordinary: Giant pandas to enjoy air conditioning

A group of scientists is analysing temperature, humidity and airflow of Wolong, a giant panda habitat in southwest Sichuan Province, China. These researchers of the Wolong Giant Panda Research Center are trying to develop an air-conditioning system which will produce air with characteristics similar to those in Wolong. Their objective is that the system will be developed in time to be installed in a zoo in Taiwan which will host the giant panda couple Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan. With a semitropical maritime climate, Taiwan would not be a comfortable place for giant pandas without air conditioning. The pandas are intended as goodwill gifts from people on the Chinese mainland to Taiwan compatriots. The pandas were selected from 23 candidates and named by public votes. The giant panda is one of the world's most endangered species and is found only in China. It is estimated that 1590 giant pandas live in the wild in China.
