Past events: the IIR worldwide, April 2024

In March and April, the IIR attended Centro Studi Galileo, IIAR, and China Refrigeration conferences. Update on these three events

MCE: IIR at Centro Studi Galileo Conference

The IIR has participated to Studi Galileo’s (CSG) international Conference focusing on the new EU F-gas regulation “From the F-gas regulation to alternative refrigerants: impact on new and existing systems”.

The IIR recently took part in the 43rd edition of Mostra Convegno Expocomfort, the international tradeshow on refrigeration and HVAC systems, which took place in Milan from 12 to 14 March 2024. This year, the focus was on energy efficiency and energy transition. More than 121,000 participants and 1,700 exhibitors joined the event, exploring new technologies and the latest innovations in the field.

The IIR also took the opportunity to participate in the Centro Studi Galileo conference entitled “From the F-gas regulation to alternative refrigerants: impact on new and existing systems”. The CSG event included two sessions presenting briefing notes from the Italian Minister for the Environment and the EU commission DG Clima about the F-gas regulation III, position papers from main associations in the sector, technical presentations from institutions and industries.

The incoming Director General, Yosr Allouche, presented the IIR vision about the opportunities and the global challenges facing the refrigeration sector, mentioning the importance of working on three priority actions for a sustainable and energy efficient implementation of cold chains, particularly in developing countries where massive food losses are generated due to the lack of cold chains. Dr. Allouche highlighted that key actions include passive cooling solutions, energy efficiency and the choice of sustainable refrigerants, and that interventions should not only be carried out for mitigation purposes, but also for adaptation. She also mentioned the need to adopt a collaborative approach to achieving the global climate target, involving actions from different stakeholders, including industry, science and governments at international level.

IIAR

The International Institute of All natural Refrigerants (IIAR) held its annual conference and exhibition from 23 to 27 March 2024. A partnership agreement was signed on this occasion between the IIR and the IIAR. The Director General of the IIR also took part in a panel presenting the IIR’s vision of the future of natural refrigerants.

China Refrigeration

The China Refrigeration exhibition was held from 8 to 10 April 2024 in Beijing in China.

With over 70,000 visitors and 1,000 exhibitors, this annual event was a great success, as usual.

Over the past two years, Chinese manufacturers of domestic and industrial heat pumps have developed considerably and intensified their production, a trend that was particularly highlighted at this exhibition.

Likewise, the development and manufacture of centrifugal compressors are on the increase, thus contributing to system efficiency optimisation.

Following the Kigali amendment, more R32 systems and components for R290 systems have been developed by manufacturers, both for export and for local consumption.

The IIR participated in various events and shared a booth with the CAR (Chinese Association of Refrigeration).
