Russia: Refrigerating equipment market
According to a new market report published by IndexBox Marketing, the Russian refrigerating equipment market – except household type equipment – in 2012 was worth 319.447 million € – an increase of 5.1% compared to the previous year.
According to a new market report published by IndexBox Marketing, the Russian refrigerating equipment market –household type equipment excluded - in 2012 was worth 319.447 million € – an increase of 5.1% compared to the previous year. In the medium term, the market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 5.1% in physical terms, reaching more than 1,100,000 units in 2018.
The supply volume of refrigeration equipment on the Russian market in 2012 amounted to more than 817,000 units, which was by 5% higher than in 2011. The volume of refrigeration-equipment imports in the same year amounted to about 177,160 units, thus accounting for 21.7% of the market in physical terms.
In the last few years, the market was dominated by domestic products, their share increasing on an annual basis – from 70.7% in 2011 to 78.3% in 2012. The main trend in the next few years will be the further decline of imports, due to an increase in the prices of foreign producers and a decrease of solvent demand in Russia. By switching to cheaper products, consumers are focusing more on the price-quality ratio and the availability of service maintenance.
The largest share in the market structure in 2012 was taken by refrigerated display cases, accounting for 27.4% of the market in physical terms. In second place were refrigerated cabinets with 26.7% of the market. Their share increased by 15.6% in 2011, due to an increase in the production of major manufacturers of this type of equipment. In addition, the imports of refrigerated cabinets increased more than twofold. In the third place were freezers with a share of 15.3% of the market. In the last year they showed a decline in their market share due to the reduction of imports in 2012.
Leaders in the production of refrigeration equipment in 2012 were the company OOO Frigoglass Eurasia, the Moscow ZAO OPK and the Krasnoyarsk company OOO ZTO Biryusa. The combined share of the three companies accounted for 52.3% of the market.
The main refrigeration-equipment share imported to the Russian Federation in the 1st half of 2013 came from Ukraine. Imports from the country accounted for 34.6% of total imports. Products made in Turkey represented a share of about 20.1% of all imports to the Russian market. In the third place, were products from China with a share of 15.2%.
Russian exports of refrigeration equipment were at the level of 35.7 thousand units in 2012, thus not exceeding 5.2% of the total production. The main share of refrigeration-equipment exports of from the Russian Federation in the 1st half of 2013 was exported to Ukraine and accounted for 82.9% of the total. Around 4.8% of all Russian exports of refrigeration equipment was exported to Uzbekistan. Armenia was in the third place with 2.1% of the total.
