Science of cold in action. The IIR unveils new visual identity and membership framework

Today, as it introduces its new brand identity, the IIR puts the impact of scientific knowledge at the forefront, and presents a clear value proposition that reaffirms its mission - to foster collaboration and enhance knowledge on all aspects of refrigeration and heat pump technologies and their applications to contribute to a sustainable future for all.

Paris, France, 21 April 2026.

Refrigeration is not just a resource; it is a fundamental right. It protects lives, preserves food and supports economies, yet it is often invisible. Today, we highlight the urgency not just to recognise its importance, but to turn science into action. Our new brand is an embodiment of this objective. The IIR supports decision‑makers, industry stakeholders, and the international scientific community through technical recommendations, the development and dissemination of evidence-based information, expert consultations, scientific conferences, and capacity‑building programs.” - Yosr Allouche, IIR Director General.

A new visual identity aligned to the IIR’s mission

The new logo brings together the defining pillars of the organisation; science, policy and industry symbolised by the dots around the periphery of the logo which are separated from the rest of the logo to highlight the institute’s independency; global reach, expressed through the world motif; and cold, represented by the snowflake. Within the centre of the logo is a vertical equals sign which symbolises the need for all nations to have equal access to not just refrigeration resources but also efficient refrigeration equipment. For the first time, the IIR introduces distinct English and French versions of the logo, to ensure clarity across its two official languages.

As the signature of its manifesto video, the IIR's tagline, Science of cold in action, underlines the institute's belief that refrigeration science and knowledge have an essential role to play in advancing human well-being, animal welfare, food safety and quality, public health and global economic development while addressing climate change issues.

Enhancing membership and engagement

The IIR has also restructured its membership framework around five pillars: network, science, data, policy and action, to ensure that all members benefit from clearer value and stronger engagement within the network. New benefits include priority to join and speak at webinars on technical innovations, access information on new policies and regulations, enhanced visibility and event participation opportunities for corporate members, priority to join as experts in IIR’s R&D and international cooperation projects for private members. National institutions now benefit from wider access to information, depending on the country membership category. The IIR is also expanding international engagement for country members, through inviting commission members to join the IIR Delegation quota at international fora, and requesting on-demand technical consultations to support evidence-based policy formulation.

To further strengthen engagement across its network, the IIR is launching a series of webinars throughout 2026, to inform about the new membership packages offered for country representatives, corporate and private members. These sessions will help members better understand how to leverage the IIR’s platform, exchange with peers, and explore concrete examples of the impact of IIR membership across the global community.

With its new visual identity, strengthened membership structure, and manifesto, the IIR underscores the power of scientific knowledge and its dissemination for global climate action.

The IIR bridges science, policy and industry to advance refrigeration and heat pump technologies that support a sustainable future for all.
