Summer 2021, past events: focus on the last events involving the IIR

Co-sponsored Conferences

More than 80 papers available from the International Sorption Heat Pump Conference 2021

Co-sponsored by the IIR, the International Sorption Heat Pump Conference (ISHPC) 2021 was held online on August 22 - 25. The conference was organised by Technische Universität Berlin in Germany and welcomed over 130 participants (77 from Europe, 38 from Asia and 13 from the Americas).

In total, 86 papers were presented in three parallel sessions. The conference featured one plenary lecture on the future of compression refrigeration and – as a specialty – 5 debates, each with 2 keynote speakers, took place and explored two controversial views on the most relevant questions of the sorption community today: Do energy systems become too complex by integrating sorption heat pumping devices? Do we need new working media for sorption heat pumps?

The recorded sessions are available to registered participants until October 21 at https://event.ishpc2021.exordo.com.

Georg Alefeld Memorial Award 2021 for Prof. Ruzhu Wang

Given for outstanding achievements in the field of sorption heat pumping technologies, the Georg Alefeld Memorial Award 2021 was bestowed to Prof. Ruzhu Wang (Shanghai Jiao Tong University) at the occasion of the ISHPC.

Prof. Wang serves as a regional editor for the International Journal of Refrigeration, he was Vice President of IIR Commission B2 (Refrigerating Equipment), and he received the IIR-Gustav Lorentzen Medal in 2019. He works on both absorption and adsorption technologies, in fundamental research and in industrial cooperation, and has educated numerous young engineers, some of whom are now Professors themselves. Demonstrated by his numerous and important contributions, Prof. Wang is certainly one of the leading scientists in the field of sorption heat pumping technologies, not only in China but worldwide.

Over 20 different countries present at the Food BioTech Conference 2021

On August 23-24, ITMO University hosted the Food BioTech Conference 2021. Co-sponsored by the IIR, the event brought together participants from more than 20 different countries, including Italy, Brazil, Spain and France. The conference was held online and covered topics such as functional foods, food processing, nutrition and preventive medicine, food quality and sustainable consumption.

Over the two days, the participants made presentations at poster sessions, scientific sections and round tables, and a “chair-yoga” break as well as a virtual tour of ITMO University were also organised as part of the event.
