The year 2016: a new year full of opportunity
The whole world is now engaged in short, medium and long-term efforts to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. These efforts significantly concern all countries and economic activities.
At the same time, the need to ensure there is enough food to satisfy the entire planet has been strongly reaffirmed as a global development goal.
The refrigeration sector is one of the most concerned. The IIR has published an Informatory Note on refrigeration in the global economy which illustrates both its utmost importance as well as its impact on the environment.
As such, refrigeration consumes 17% of global electricity and this number is rising.
What does the new year have in store for refrigeration?
The year 2016 will be particularly important due to increasing international discussions on the production and consumption of hydrofluorocarbons with high global warming potential. These discussions must go hand in hand with reflection and commitment on energy efficiency and life cycle climate performance (LCCP) evaluations of equipment.
The IIR will continue to regularly publish on these topics and also counts on, especially with the support of UN agencies and programs, remaining very active in the organization of conferences and seminars across the globe in order to build a solid and sustainable refrigeration industry, adapted to different local conditions whilst respecting the environment.
We wish you all the best for this New Year full of opportunity.
