Job summary
The Membership Strategy & Development Officer role works in close collaboration with the Director General to manage and strengthen government memberships while primarily focusing on expanding private and corporate memberships. The role collects and analyses membership data and trends, develops strategic scenarios, and designs solutions to grow the IIR network and enhance engagement across all member segments. By proactively managing relationships, ensuring that designed membership packages are effectively implemented, and supporting tailored initiatives, the role contributes to increasing the Institute’s reach, influence, and overall value proposition for members.
Job description
Membership Management & Engagement (35%)
- Supporting the Director General in identifying key governmental focal points for membership engagement, embassies contacts and other intergovernmental organisation liaison.
- Maintain regular contact private, and corporate members, managing these relationships, and ensuring close follow-up to maximise satisfaction and participation.
- Develop and implement strategies for corporate and private membership growth, including retention plans to ensure members renew year-to-year, and manage the full membership cycle from recruitment and onboarding to ongoing engagement and renewal processes.
- Leverage CRM and membership management tools to track, analyse, and optimise member relationships.
- Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of membership packages, ensuring services and benefits are delivered as promised.
- Act as the main point of contact for members regarding membership-related queries, support, and guidance.
- Coordinate follow-up on membership inquiries.
- Identify opportunities to deepen engagement and increase value for members.
Membership Growth & Strategic Development (30%)
- Develop strategies and scenarios for expanding the membership base, including private members, corporate companies, industry associations, and other stakeholders in the refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump sectors.
- Analyse membership statistics, trends, and patterns to inform strategy and identify growth opportunities.
- Oversee and optimise the newly developed membership packages, proposing updates or redesigns when needed, and design innovative models, benefits, and engagement initiatives to attract new members and retain existing ones.
- Collaborate with the Director General and senior management to align membership growth strategies with overall organisational objectives.
Data Analysis & Reporting (20%)
- Collect, analyse, and interpret membership data to produce actionable insights and recommendations.
- Prepare regular reports and dashboards for the DG and the Management Committee on membership trends, engagement levels, and growth performance.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of membership packages and engagement initiatives through key performance indicators and metrics.
Cross-Functional Collaboration (15%)
- Work closely with other departments (Programs, Policy, Communications and marketing) to ensure membership packages and initiatives are effectively integrated with IIR activities.
- Support marketing and communications initiatives to promote the benefits of IIR membership to prospective and existing members.
- Contribute to fundraising and partnership initiatives that support membership expansion and institutional sustainability.

Education & Experience
- University degree in International Relations, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum 5–7 years of relevant experience in membership management, business development, or strategic engagement, preferably in international, intergovernmental, or professional associations.
- Proven track record of growing membership networks and managing relationships with government and corporate stakeholders.
- Experience with CRM systems, membership management platforms, and data visualisation tools is an asset.
Languages
- Fluency in English and French.
- Proficiency in additional languages is a strong advantage.
