World Ozone Day 2026

Join the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) in supporting the Vienna Convention & Montreal Protocol (Ozone) Secretariat on World Ozone Day 2026. This year we are celebrating 10 years of sustainable cooling under the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. As a global commitment to protect the ozone layer and lower harmful emissions, the Kigali Amendment has played a crucial role in climate action.

Global action for a cooler planet - Celebrating 10 years of sustainable cooling under the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol

A decade into its adoption, we celebrate the impact of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. Via science-based policymaking, global collaboration, compliance and financial suppport, measureable results have been achieved in protecting the ozone layer. Today, countries and industries have been enabled to adopt safer, cleaner, and more sustainable alternatives that foster economic development as well.

The Kigali Amendment has been instrumental in driving the global phase-down of HFCs and facilitating a global transition towards more efficient and sustainable cooling solutions. Through collective action taken across the world, and responsible innovation from industry, achieving climate goals is possible, as is ensuring simultaneous benefits for economies and people around the world.

At the IIR, we channel our scientific know-how and wide network to:

  • strengthen capacity-building initiatives, and
  • support the global transition away from HFCs
