Appointment of commission presidents, vice-presidents, secretaries, members, and junior members

The president of the Science and Technology Council and the section and commission presidents are elected every 4 years by the General Conference during the IIR Congress and for a 4-year term renewable once. Together with the Director General of the IIR, they form the Science and Technology Council. The Executive Committee or, by delegation, its president, appoints the commission vice-presidents on the proposal of the Science and Technology Council. They are also appointed for 4 years, renewable once.

The Science and Technology Council or, by delegation, its president, appoints the commission secretaries as well as the commission members every 4 years, on the proposal of the country delegates and subject to validation by commission presidents. They are appointed for four years, renewable without time limit.

Each member country up to date with its contribution is entitled to a number of commission members depending on its category of membership and therefore its contribution to the IIR: 30 members for category 1, 20 for category 2, 15 for category 3, 10 for category 4, 5 for category 5, and 3 for category 6, excluding presidents, vice-presidents, secretaries and honorary members.

In addition, the member country may propose an equivalent number of junior commission members (maximum 35 years of age on the day of their nomination). The latter proposal may come from any commission member and must be validated by the country's delegate and then by the president of the commission corresponding to the expertise of the person concerned.
