LA LYOPHILISATION EST UTILISEE POUR LA CONSERVATION DES BIENS CULTURELS DANS TROIS DOMAINES : PREPARATION DE PLANTES OU D'ANIMAUX DESTINES A DES FINS MUSEOLOGIQUES, LE SAUVETAGE DE DOCUMENTS GRAPHIQUES ACCIDENTELLEMENT GORGES D'EAU, LE TRAITEMENT D'OBJETS PROVENANT DE FOUILLES EN MILIEU HUMIDE OU AQUATIQUE. LES MATERIAUX IMBIBES D'EAU SONT DES FIBRES TRESSEES OU TISSEES, DES OS, DES PEAUX ET PARTICULIEREMENT DU BOIS. LES OBJETS PROVENANT DE FOUILLES, DONT CERTAINS REMONTENT A L'EPOQUE MESOLITHIQUE, ONT DES STRUCTURES TRES FRAGILES. UNE FOIS EN CONTACT AVEC L'ATMOSPHERE, ILS SE DETERIORENT TRES RAPIDEMENT ET LA LYOPHILISATION EST LE SEUL MOYEN DE LES SECHER TOUT EN PRESERVANT LEUR NATURE. ON PEUT AINSI LES ETUDIER ET LES CONSERVER LE PLUS LONGTEMPS POSSIBLE.
