The article presents the summaries of seven papers from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) seminar on detection tests for irradiated food: MAFF R&D programme to develop detection tests for irradiated food: introduction and summary of progress; establishing luminescence methods to detect irradiated foods; 2-alkylcyclobutanones as markers for exotic fruits; development of an ELISA for the detection of irradiated liquid whole egg; detection of food irradiation by ELISA; detection of irradiated liquid egg white by capillary electrophoresis; hydrogen as a marker for irradiated food.
