Résumé

A 20-30% loss of fruits and vegetables has been observed annually in China due to decay. Extending the storage life of tropical and subtropical fruits is of vital importance to reduce loss. The paper reviews postharvest treatments and storage techniques presently practised in China for the main tropical fruits (citrus, bananas, litchi, longan, pineapple and mango). Tropical and subtropical fruits are mainly treated with hot water or steam and/or chemicals, and then stored or shipped under controlled temperature or modified atmosphere conditions.
