Résumé

Gala apples were stored in a controlled atmosphere with 1 kPa O2 and 3 kPa CO2 at 1 °C. The RH was maintained at approximately 97% for high RH treatments and at approximately 94% for low RH treatments during the 2 initial and 2 final months of storage. The treatments with low ethylene concentrations were maintained at 0.0 to 1.0 microlitre ethylene/litre and 0.0 to 1.5 microlitre ethylene/litre, whereas the treatment without ethylene removal had ethylene levels of approximately 100 microlitres/litre. Ethylene removal maintained a high degree of flesh firmness and apples retained their green ground colour and juiciness after 8 months of storage.
