Essais de désinfection d'agrumes par le froid au cours du transport maritime.

Shipping trial of in-transit cold-disinfestation of citrus.

Auteurs : AMOS N. D., SHARP A. K.

Résumé

The current requirement for exporting Australian citrus to Japan is that the citrus must be held for 16 days below 1 °C in a land-based cool store before being exported. Treatment in a refrigerated shipping container, during transit, would avoid the cost and time of the pre-shipment treatment but is more difficult to achieve. A simulated shipping trial was undertaken to assess whether in-transit cold-disinfestation of citrus in containers to Japan is feasible. The trial came close to meeting the Japanese time/temperature protocol, with only a small percentage of measured fruit exceeding 1 °C. During the trial, the container experienced several off-power periods up to about one hour in length. There was no observed changes in fruit temperature during these periods.
