The optimum period/duration for cold storage (4-5 °C, 80% RH) of cut roses was determined. Cut roses stored for 3 days significantly absorbed more water (57.08 g/flower), followed by those stored for 2 days (53.95 g/flower), while cut roses stored for 6 days and fresh flowers (control) consumed less water (36.08 and 36.30 g/flower, respectively). Cumulative water loss was proportional to the cumulative water uptake, such that cut roses stored for days recorded the highest water loss (27.24 g/flower). Low water balance was maintained by cut roses stored for 4 days (0.74) and fresh flowers (0.75), while those stored for 1, 2, 3 and 5 days exhibited high water balance (0.89, 0.87, 0.902 and 0.85, respectively). Cut roses stored for 3 days recorded the longest vase life (7 days), followed those stored for 2, 4 and 5 days (6 days).
