Résumé

This third progress report highlights the retail sector’s environmental ambitions and the progress they have made in reducing their industry’s environmental impact. It builds on the initial commitments made on climate change and captures elements of more significant change as the sector takes steps to embed sustainability at its core. It also looks at ways in which retail can work with its supply chain partners and support its customers to reduce their environmental footprint. A range of innovative and best practice approaches have been highlighted to demonstrate the depth and breadth of action taken to date. A group of leading retailers, accounting for 52% of UK retail by market value signed up to the commitments.
Extract from the table of contents: reducing direct impact (buildings; refrigeration; transport; waste; water; biodiversity; climate change adaptation); reducing customer impact (green products and services; green homes; food waste; packaging); reducing impact in the supply chain (making products more sustainable; working with domestic supply chains; responsible sourcing in global supply chains); supporting government to meet its objectives.
