Summary

The effects of 1-MCP on the preservation of the post-harvest quality of climacteric fruits have been highlighted for many different species. Accordingly, an experimental study was conducted recently to determine its effectiveness on plums. Based on the results of the study, even a very low dosage of 1-MCP (less than 0.75 ppm) is clearly beneficial in terms of preserving firmness and acidity and limiting weight loss. On the other hand, the fact that impact on the other quality criteria was less clearly marked, coupled with the variable effectiveness of the molecule depending on the variety to which it is applied, call for further experimental work with a view to future registration.
