Effect of controlled atmosphere composition on storage quality of 'Concorde' pears.

Summary

The investigations were performed on 'Concorde' pears stored in common cold storage and various CA conditions. The most yellow skin was noted in fruits kept in cold storage. Pears stored in an atmosphere with a very low oxygen content were characterized by a shade of the green background colour of the peel. Fruits from the 2001 crop showed a much higher firmness than those from 2002. With the passage of storage time firmness decreased, but this decrease was smaller under the CA conditions than in common cold storage. Low concentration of O2 had a positive effect on the firmness and storability of pears.
