Summary
Sacral Theater has been developed for the needs of the Atlas Barrel Toroid part of the Cern LHC Project. This 3D code therefore calculates the quench propagation in a 25 meter long superconducting race track coil, and this from the 20 500 A nominal current down to 2000 A. Particular features have been specially included to allow the "low current" study, where the process progresses rather very slowly within these very large coils. This work is part of the Magnet Safety System study, as heaters initiating the quench propagation ensure the protection of the coils in case of fault detection. It allows the dissipation of the total stored energy, which can reach 1080 Mj in the Atlas Barrel Toroid magnet.
