Summary

A number of risks are involved when operating large liquid helium cryogenic plants, in particular particle accelerator cooling systems. It is important to control the amount of helium present in the atmosphere. The theoretical principles relating to the application of ultrasound measurement techniques to detect the helium content of air were studied. The method was successfully implemented on a specially designed tomographic device.
