Summary

NOTES THE PREDICTED SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT IN THE PERFORMANCE OF SOLAR HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS USING SENSIBLE HEAT STORAGE IN WATER IF THERMAL STRATIFICATION CAN BE MAINTAINED IN THE STORAGE TANK. DESCRIBES A MANIFOLD FOR INTRODUCING LIQUID OF ARBITRARY TEMPERATURE INTO A TANK WITHOUT DESTROYING PREEXISTING STRATIFICATION. THIS MANIFOLD MAY BE DESCRIBED AS A CONTROLLED, BUOYANT JET. QUANTITATIVE COMPARISONS ARE MADE WITH THE RESULTS OF THERMAL TESTS OF THE MAJOR COMPONENTS OF THE MANIFOLD.
