Summary

Recovery of latent and sensible heat from the exhaust air of spray drying units can be achieved using liquid sorbents. Using a counterflow absorber unit the warm, moist exhaust air can be converted into hot, dry air. This air can either be reused in the spray dryer or indirectly via an air-air heat exchanger. Depending on the chosen configuration (direct/indirect use of air and heat integrated or adiabatic absorber unit), 60% or more of the heat can be recovered as medium pressure steam and/or sensible heat between 80 and 180oC.
