Summary

IN FULLY DEVELOPED FLUIDIZED BEDS, THE PARTICLE MOTION PLAYS AN OVER-RIDING IMPORTANT ROLE IN HEAT TRANSFER PROCESS. IN CONSIDERATION OF THIS FACT, A NEW MODEL IS DEVELOPED TO DESCRIBE THE HEAT TRANSFER BETWEEN FLUIDIZED BEDS AND IMMERSED SURFACES, BASED ON THE DEFINITION OF A TWO-PHASE THERMAL BOUNDARY LAYER AROUND THE SURFACE. THE SUBSEQUENT CORRELATIONS OF THE MAXIMUM HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT AND THE OPTIMUM FLOW-RATE ARE OBTAINED. THEY AGREE WELL OVER A WIDE RANGE OF CONDITIONS WITH THE DATA REPORTED IN THE LITERATURE.
