A new and energy efficient method for ice slurry production.

Summary

As the energy transition progresses, the need for cost-effective, efficient and reliable energy storage is growing. If large amounts of thermal energy need to be stored, phase change materials (PCMs) can be a space-saving option. A relatively inexpensive and non-toxic PCM with outstanding thermal properties is ice - even pumpable in the form of ice slurry. The most common method of producing ice slurry is to scrape ice from a cooled surface. This results in high losses. In the past, many other methods for ice slurry production have been developed, but they have not been successful on a large scale. In this paper, a new energy-efficient and low-maintenance ice slurry production process is presented and its thermal properties are investigated.
