Summary

A SINGLE ACTING STIRLING ENGINE WITH TWO PISTONS IS CONSIDERED TO CONSIST OF FIVE PARTS: AN EXPANSION SPACE, A HEATER, A REGENERATOR, A COOLER AND A COMPRESSION SPACE. THE PERFORMANCE OF THE ENGINE IS COMPUTED. CALCULATIONS HAVE MADE CLEAR THAT THE OPTIMUM PHASE DIFFERENCE IS ABOUT 120 DEG, THE OPTIMUM RATIO OF SWEPT VOLUME IS ABOUT 0.85 AND THE VOLUME OF THE COOLER AFFECTS THE ENGINE PERFORMANCE MORE LARGELY THAN THE OTHER HEAT EXCHANGER VOLUMES.
