Summary
Chemical heat pumps (CHPs) provide high storage capacity and high heat of reaction as compared to sensible heat generated by absorption. Investigation of material properties and their operation have led to heat pump exploitation for commercial and industrial applications. Integration of solar thermal systems in the CHPs would assist in expanding the utilization of CHPs and would facilitate many applications in tropical regions. The research done on CHP technology, current applications and future prospects has been reviewed, with special reference to their utilization with solar thermal energy for cold production and upgrading/storage of heat.
