A test method for the determination of window solar heat gain coefficient.

Summary

A standard test method has been developed for the determination of the fenestration solar heat gain coefficient using simulated solar irradiance. The method is referenced in the newly released Canadian standard on window performance evaluation as an alternative to computer simulation techniques. To evaluate the new method, solar heat gain coefficient values for nine high-performance windows covering a wide range of commercially available glazing products were measured in a solar simulator test facility. The sensitivity of its performance to the environmental conditions and the simulated solar spectrum encountered in the test facility was also investigated.
