A three-dimensional model for local and averaged temperature distributions in saturated boiling.

Summary

Enhanced heat transfer presents an important issue in energy-saving and environment protection. Boiling, as convective heat transfer with phase change, is a very efficient heat transfer. In practice we assume uniform wall temperature in boiling. In development of new heat transfer enhanced surfaces, the phenomenon of boiling must be thoroughly understood. A three-dimensional model has been developed to study nucleate site interactions in saturated boiling on a thin heating plate. The effect of the number of nucleation sites on local surface temperature fluctuations in the growth of a single bubble, as well as on surface-averaged temperature fluctuations, is analyzed.
