Summary

This document defines volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It describes various types of emission and deleterious effects on health as well as the photochemical pollution arising from emissions. The second section covers VOC emissions reduction policy. Topics covered are the French Programme and the Geneva Protocol, product composition, mobile sources, immobile forces, emissions monitoring, monitoring of the quality of ambient air and financial incentives. In the third section, Ademe presents means of reducing VOC emissions thanks to a well-defined approach, preventive measures and discharge treatment. In the last section, Ademe presents various ways of measuring VOCs and using results obtained. Useful addresses and examples of achievements are also provided.
