Advanced heat pumps in Austria.
Author(s) : BANGHERI A., HALOZAN H.
Summary
The Austrian heat pump market started after the second oil price shock supported by a governmental programme supporting heat pump installations by means of a tax reduction model. Since 1985, when this programme was completed, the manufacturers and distributors, with support from certain utilities, started working together within the LGW and succeeded in raising sales figures. More than 145 000 heat pump units are now in operation in Austria, as are about 112 000 heat pump water heaters, 32 000 heat pumps for space heating purposes and 2000 for heat recovery, all in the building sector. The installed thermal capacity is about 720 MW, the annual heat delivery 1800 GWh, corresponding to an oil equivalent of 235 000 t/yr; the CO2 emissions reduction is 460 000 t/yr, based on the electricity generation mix and oil-fired boilers.
