Summary
The paper reports a metal hydride (MH) type refrigerator using hydrogen storage alloys. This refrigerator can be driven by the combination of high (above 433 K) and low (below 300 K) temperatures of waste heats. Furthermore, the refrigeration below 252 K becomes possible with the hybrid system that a hydrocarbon refrigerator is combined with this refrigerator. This hybrid system markedly reduces the energy consumption and the carbon dioxide emission by 70% compared with a conventional CFC type refrigerator.
