Summary

THIS PAPER GIVES COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCES BETWEEN A DESIGN OF 8-BLADED ROTARY VANE COMPRESSOR AND SIMILAR OUTPUT COMPRESSORS OF SCREW AND SCROLL DESIGNS OF A NOMINAL ELECTRICAL 3.75 KILOWATTS SIZE. COMPARISONS ARE MADE ON PRIME COST AND LIFE OR FAILURE FACTORS. IN THESE THE ROTARY VANE MACHINE SHOWS SOME ADVANTAGES, MAINLY IN COSTS AND FAILURE DUE TO ABNORMAL CIRCUIT CONDITIONS. COMPARISONS ON THE BASIS OF ISENTROPIC AND VOLUMETRIC EFFICIENCIES SHOW THE THREE TYPES TO BE OF SIMILAR STANDING, PARTICULARLY AT COMPRESSION RATIOS BELOW ABOUT 6 TO 1. D.W.H.
